DOCman 1.4 end-of-life

Today we are announcing the end of support for DOCman 1.4. Released in February 2009 and downloaded more then 1 million times it has served us well for the past 2.5 years. With the end-of-life of DOCman 1.4 we are also officially saying goodbye to Joomla 1.0 which already reached its end of life on[ July 22,  2009][1].

We encourage everyone who is using DOCman 1.4 to upgrade to either DOCman 1.5 for Joomla 1.5 LTS (long term support) or DOCman 1.6 for Joomla 1.6/1.7 releases.

We will continue to offer support for DOCman 1.4 on our forums until the 1st of September 2011 to help users migrate to DOCman 1.5/1.6.

With DOCman 1.6 released and the end-of-life of DOCman 1.4, we are now putting all our focus on DOCman 2.0. Keep a close eye on our blog or follow us on Twitter to receive more information.

DOCman 1.6 - Dashboard

A compatibility release

Conceived in 2003, DOCman has continued to be the premiere document management tool for Joomla for over 8 years.  As many would already know we have been working on DOCman 2.0 which is itself a revolutionary rebuild of DOCman using Nooku Framework.

What fewer would know is that we have also been working DOCman 1.6… a Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 compatible release of DOCman 1.5.

DOCman 1.6 does not include new features, instead we bring you the same stability, performance and security as DOCman 1.5 out of the box. It is intended that the DOCman 1.6 release will provide be a bridging solution for those already running with Joomla 1.6 or 1.7 and awaiting the release of DOCman 2.0.

DOCman Secrets: Standard Buttons

We are back once again with yet another post in the DOCman Secrets collection which already includes some really great posts such as: Brief Permissions a quick look into the inner wranglings of the DOCman ACL, Email notifications a breakdown of the Notify plugin, Generating Thumbnails a breakdown of the Autothumb plugin and last but by no means least Batch importing a detailed look at Populate.

In this edition I want to show you one of the most simple functions DOCman offers, the ability to turn specific buttons off in the frontend. Great if you ever felt the need to rid yourself of additional options or you just don’t have the real estate on your pages to offer as many options as DOCman puts out by default.
DOCman 1.5 Standard Buttons
So how difficult is this to do? Very simple, each button has its own on/off switch located in the Plugin called ‘Standard Buttons’ which can be found in the Joomla Plugins Manager via the Joomla administrator.

Currently you can turn the following options on or off:

  • DownloadView
  • Details
  • Edit
  • Move
  • Delete
  • Update
  • Reset
  • Checkin/Checkout
  • Approve
  • Publish/Unpublish

That’s all for this edition of the DOCman Secrets, remember you can always get the support you need from the Joomlatools support portal or community forums!

DOCman 1.5.10 and 1.4.2 released

We are happy to announce the immediate availability of DOCman 1.5.10 and DOCman 1.4.2!

During the recent holidays, a medium level vulnerability was discovered in DOCman. We found a query that wasn’t being properly escaped and could lead to an SQL Injection. There is no known exploit for this vulnerability and it would be very difficult to create one because there are other security measures in place.

At Joomlatools we are fanatic about security and even if DOCman 1.5.9 has recently been released, we recommend upgrading to 1.5.10 just to be on the safe side.

This vulnerability affects all versions of DOCman prior to 1.5.10. So if you’re using 1.5.9 or older, please upgrade to 1.5.10. If you’re using 1.4.1 or older, please upgrade to 1.4.2.
