That’s why we created Joomlatools Connect to bring document indexing and file thumbnails to DOCman. Joomlatools Connect is hosted on our best-in-class infrastructure rather than relying on your Joomla hosting.
Document indexing
Search for text inside uploaded files in DOCman. Indexing happens automatically on our servers on upload. Searching indexed files is supported through Smart Search, good old Joomla search, or DOCman’s built-in search.
We supports over 20 different file types:
- Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)
- Image files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, RAW)
- Microsoft Office (DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX)
- Open Document Format (ODT, ODS, ODP, ODG, ODC)
- Text files (TXT, RTF, TSV, TAB)
File thumbnails
Within a few seconds every uploaded file in DOCman will get a beautiful thumbnail. Thumbnails are generated on our servers and automatically copied to your website.

Security and privacy
The first question that may come to your mind is that if Joomlatools Connect a secure service? After all, your files are processed on our servers and then copied back to your Joomla installation.
The answer is yes. All communication between your application and our servers is encrypted using industry standard SSL/TLS. We recommend that your application uses an SSL/TLS encrypted endpoint to receive this payload in a secure way but this is up to you and your specific needs.
We don’t keep a copy of your files on our server. Once we index or process your files, we copy them back to your Joomla website and delete them from our own servers. We only store file size, type and other statistics to help us monitor and improve our service.
